Christina Huang

My name is Christina Huang. When I was in my early 30s, I had always thought that I would take painting classes after my kids were grown and after I retired from my day job. However, life had a different plan for me. About 13 years ago, I met my first art teacher, Ruey Syrop, at the Chinese school my young children attended. Since then I have taken varied art classes and my passion for painting has grown.
The two landscape pieces in this series are from places I visit often in San Francisco. I also have several mushroom pieces. Discovering mushrooms during my walks is like a treasure hunt. I take photos of them and use them as my painting subjects. When I paint these mushrooms, I let my palette and brushwork decide the theme, the color, the foreground, and the background.
Over the years, I have seen improvements in my skill and in my compositions. I am a humble student of art for life and will continue to learn and practice.
