Margaret Davis

Margaret Davis.jpg

“My great love of Nature leads me to create uplifting images of animals and plants filled with joy, movement, and humor. I find inspiration in the wild things around me and in the mythic creatures of the imagination found in Medieval manuscripts, tapestries, Celtic knotwork, and Egyptian tomb paintings.”

Artist and calligrapher Margaret Davis grew up in Galesburg, Illinois, where her mother Norma, an artist and art teacher, instilled in her a love of artistic creation. She studied composition, printmaking, drawing, graphic design, illustration, and calligraphy in college and afterwards. Her favorite media include gouache, Sumi ink, 22-karat gold leaf, and linoleum blockprint.

Margaret has been working professionally in the Bay Area since 2005, reaching an international clientele. Corporate and celebrity clients have included San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral and Andrea Seabrook of NPR. In addition to custom illuminated calligraphy, Margaret has created many CD graphics packages, logos, magazine illustrations, and book design. She is a member of the Diablo/Alameda branch of the National League of American Pen Women, and she is also a professional singer, harper, flutist, and recorder-player.
